Psychotherapy, by avoiding the spiritual aspect of life, misses the basic causes of all issues.
While working as a psychotherapist I recall learning that forgiveness is something you do for yourself.
Obviously that fact is true.
I also learned that not forgiving someone is like eating poison and expecting the other person (the one you refuse to forgive) to die.
On a physiological level that statement rings true too.
What if forgiveness is less about letting go of the hurtful deed you felt at another’s hands and more about seeing the gift in the event?
What if forgiveness means for giving love to the one you think hurt you.
Most psychotherapists rightfully stride to separate religion from talk therapy. Yet you cannot disregard spirituality when working with a person. People are Divine Spirits living human experiences.
Unless you live in a cave in some remote high mountains you know everything and everyone, including us, is energy – spirits temporarily housed in human bodies. You also heard that we are all connected as One.
The left brain, housing your ego mind, stands guard to prevent your living in that truth lest it lose all the power it has over you.
When someone seems to do something hurtful to you realize they are gifting you the opportunity to grow and evolve your Spirit to a higher level. Give them love for what they did that forced you to take steps you would no have taken otherwise.
Send them love for being in your life.
On a spiritual level each and every person in your world agreed to come here in this lifetime to teach lessons to each other. When you look for the gift in every situation you will discover what you learned. Then you will truly feel love.
Forgiving means for giving love in every sense of the word.
That action does more than just free you. It reminds you of the Universal Laws that govern the world – whether or not you know about or believe them.
Why stay stuck in pain? Choose to reveal the lessons learned through pain and disappointment that move you forward in life.
When you trust that everything happens perfectly and for a beautiful and Divine reason you magically eliminate the stress in your life.
Earlier today I was out in the country, so far out I had no clue how to get home. A friend plugged my home address into her Garmin mapping system device and gave me directions to my house.
I felt confident as my friends and I parted ways until…
After driving a short distance I discovered the directions took me to a dead end. The road I needed was nowhere to be seen. And I had no idea where I was.
I knew I needed to head east and north so I turned in the direction that took me where I knew I would some how find my home.
Ah ha! I saw the name of a street I recognized so I turned there. But somehow that street disappeared after two blocks. Even though I had not made any turns I was on a different street.
I rode around for a while knowing I had been down some of those streets before. I did find a route that would take me home but I also knew that road would take me so far out of my way it would be an hour-long trip rather than a twenty-minute trip.
After trying to find my way (notice the word trying you never succeed when you try to do anything) I decided to just let go and trust the Universe and my Higher Self to guide me home.
Sounds crazy, doesn’t it? The thing is, I learned that when I try to make something happen I rarely succeed. Life is meant to be easy. All I had to do was ask, let go and stay clear and open to receive the answer.
Which is exactly what I did.
While my hands were on the steering wheel and my foot on the gas pedal and brake, I did not make any turns by a conscious decision. I just drove.
Sure enough I found my way home – even after the very last road I recognized as going into my neighborhood, was closed. Again I let go and followed a new road, one I had not been down before, that ran right into my neighborhood.
What a metaphor of how life works. We can make a request for what we desire. Then we let go of the request and leave it to the Universe to provide the how part. We do the what. We accept the how.
The bottom line is, we have no idea what is in our highest and best interest. Thankfully the Universe (Creator, God – whatever term you use) does. If we ask for something in detail we limit what the Universe can deliver. We always come out ahead when the Universe does the how its way.
When you care about someone who suffers the loss of a loved one, even if that someone is no longer part of your life, sometimes you just want to let them know how much you care.
Once you live in the truth that you are, at all times, one with the God Force, The All-Is-One, you recognize the big truth that every individual (every animal and plant, the earth – absolutely everything that exists) is also part of that single All-Is-One.
Ah! You see we are all connected. To see yourself as separate from others that feeling of being separate contributes to your aloneness, your sadness – your anger and frustration. All negative feelings come from buying into the illusion that we are all separate beings rather than all connected as One energy.
Instead choose to see everyone as a Divine Spirit and guess what – that is how they will show up in your world. Even the people you don’t really like – look past their human presentation, their human suit (as it is). Look beyond appearances and see their Spirit, Their Divine Spirit. See their True Self as you see your own True Self.
I started that practice the last time I was in NYC in the summer time. When riding the buses and subways instead of passing judgment (sorry that is a habit I continue to clear) about their being overweight or dirty or smelly I actually looked past those human appearances (figuring all of this is an illusion anyway) and found myself smiling.
Hey I grew up outside NYC and I never ever saw people this way before. It was quite miraculous. I actually enjoyed my rides instead of feeling miserable.
Good thing too, as humans we live in community. Whatever each of us thinks goes out to the Universe impacting everyone in some way. Eventually the energy vibration we send out comes right back at us—usual magnified.
So stay mindful of your thoughts. Realize your thoughts and moreover your mood, influences the mood and well being of those around you – at work and at home, when you’re out shopping, in the park, at the concert – every where.
When you live in happiness and love yourself first (which just happens when you know your True Self rather than the Illusion, your ego self) you exude love to everyone and everything. People will wonder what you’re up to. They will either ask you what you are doing differently that has you looking and feeling so great OR they will consciously or unconsciously imitate you.
There is another possibility – those who do not want to change will drop out of your life. Everyone remaining in your circle will feed each other with positive high vibration energy keeping all of you in that state of happiness and well being.
The vibration of people impacts the Earth’s vibration. Witness the violent behavior of people as it gets reflected in violent weather and earth changes. Nuf said.
Spirituality is the common thread that crosses all religions. What is spirituality?
You are is a Divine Being living a human experience. The Divine energy that is you, that is immortal, is your Spirit, your Soul, your Higher Self. Learn how it communicates with you and how to make that a 2-way conversation to eliminate struggle and move to happiness and joy.
