In each moment you choose to thrive, regardless of circumstances, or struggle. Struggle is optional even when horrific events occur.
Thriving after two Traumatic Brain Injuries changed my body and my mind, I can attest to the fact that you can heal anything.
Ah, but you have to know that healing means accepting yourself yourself as you are now – limitations and altered functioning, changed lifestyle and all. Healing is not about returning to how yo used to be.
Know that everything happens perfectly. When your life experience leaves you in a situation you never even imagine could happen to you, realize this seeming crisis may well be the first step in a new direction for your success in life.
Look at each crisis for the opportunity it is. Do you know the Japanese language has only one word that means both crisis and opportunity?
Do you see the gift here?
Injuries and illness, life circumstances and relationships – all of them change for everybody. How you look at the change and whether you choose to move into this new definition of your world or you choose to fight what is happening determines your level of happiness, health and success in life.
With great trepidation I quietly maneuvered through my house. Phew! I discovered the frame on one of my framed photos fell apart allowing the glass to fall to the floor. Not so interesting, huh?
Ah, but what happened next…
In the course of finding a new frame for this magnificent photograph by my talented friend Keith Couch, I realized how critically the choice of frame and mat (or no mat) are to whether the picture looks fabulous or not really so great at all.
Yes. The mat and the frame matter in how attractive the picture appears to others.
Have you ever gone to a frame shop and spent a LONG time choosing first the mat (its style, shape and color) that complimented the photo or painting and then the frame that worked with both the piece of art and the mat?
Not so easy, is it?
This morning it occurred to me how much life is like framing a picture. You see, the way you feel before an event greatly influences how you view and experience that event.
Let me give you an example.
Many people complain that affirmations don’t work. Let’s look at a major factor that causes a consciously spoken affirmation to either work or not work.
The state of your mind, body and spirit, at the time you speak the affirmation, powerfully impacts whether or not you will manifest your desire. If you are in a great mood vibrating at a high frequency when you put out your request, then you will more easily attract the good you want which also vibrates in harmony with your high frequency.
On the other hand, if you are in a cruddy or even a ho hum mood and state your affirmation then you cannot possibly attract your desire. Remember, you only attract things vibrating in harmony with your own frequency.
Your vibration reflects how you feel more so than your exact thoughts do. It isn’t the words of your affirmation as much as the feeling you experience speaking them that makes the difference.
When you stop and pay attention, you can see how you actually frame everything going on in your daily life with your mood and perspective at the time you experience the meeting, the phone call, the email, the visit, the game, etc.
What if you set an intention for a wonderful or helpful outcome before you do anything? What if you put yourself in a great mood before tackling the dreaded task?
You cannot experience two different emotions simultaneously. You cannot feel both happy and sad in the same moment. Why would you choose sad or angry or frustrated or bad when you can choose to feel happy?
Put a happy frame around all you do before you do it and watch your world change instantly. Besides you get the immediate added bonus of feeling great!
You can crate your dream life easier than you think. This method will lead you to Your Very Excellent Life.
In my previous article, “Reduce Stress By Knowing Your Life’s Direction And How To Measure Your Progress,” I explained the process of finding exactly where you are in every area of your life. Remember making your life assessment in these areas: physical health, emotional health, relationships, money matters, spirituality, fun and recreation, self image, living in the now?
Go back to that assessment now. You easily see the gap between where you are (on a scale of 1-10) vs. living Your Very Excellent Life with a 10 in all areas. Now you get to move forward toward that end goal truly living in happiness by creating your dream life.
Before you feel too overwhelmed to proceed thinking there is just no way to move from where you are no to where you want to be, the gaps being too wide to overcome without doing way too much work, take a deep breath and continue reading.
Feel more relaxed now? Great.
Now choose one (note I said just one) area of your life to improve. Got it? You can choose one with a high number or you can choose one with a low number. Your decision.
Okay. Now that you know which area to change first look at that present number rating (on that 1-10 scale). Now determine what single activity you can do, starting right now, that will raise your rating number by just 1-1.5 points.
You see change happens incrementally. When you make one little change you stick to it far more easily than you ever would if you tried to leap up by 2, 3, 4 or even more points at a time.
You can do anything if it fits into your life right? And if you can do it without stressing out, without exhausting yourself and without frustrating yourself because the task appears too difficult for you.
What do I mean?
Let’s say you want to begin to get healthier by taking care of your body. Right now you rate your physical health at a 6. You choose to eliminate eating bedtime snacks for one month.
Each night when you find yourself doing whatever activity would cause you to grab something to munch on before bed you make a conscious choice to live in the now, in the present moment and distract yourself with an activity that occupies your mind and allows you to forget about eating something you do not really need.
Repeat that behavior every night for 28 days. Each day you succeed you will increase your motivation to continue that new behavior. And you will do it without causing yourself pain or feelings of deprivation.
Re-evaluate your rating for your physical health at that time—after establishing your bedtime behavior. You will notice your health gain of at least 1 point. Now you will find yourself at a level 7 or even higher.
I know you can do it if you really want to. You know it too. So what are you waiting for?

You hear it all the time – you create your life. Everyone says you do it with your thoughts and emotions.
Okay. So how does what you think and feel make your reality manifest?
Your Spirit (Higher Self, Soul) is that eternal part of you that lives outside your body. It is part of the All-Is-One, God, Source, Universe – whatever term you prefer.
When you make a request it creates the synchronistic events that provide the opportunity to manifest what you desire. It does all the how to fulfill your what!
Ah – but you have to take the action to realize it,
Events just happen. They have no meaning in and of themselves. The only meaning an event has is the one you give it.
Happy people assign positive meanings to events. When something unpleasant happens they look for the good in the situation—even in the worst situations of all. Those people know that the bigger the tragedy, the bigger the lesson and the bigger the growth.
Unhappy people interpret most events in a negative manner. They see the bad side of most things. They fail to recognize their responsibility in how their world looks, and how their life flows (or doesn’t). They blame people and circumstances when they feel unhappy.
People who choose to see the negative side of everything limit what they can be and do in life. They vibrate at lower frequencies and therefore block themselves from getting the things they say they want—most of which vibrate at a higher faster frequency than they do.
The good news is, even negative people can change—when they choose to do so. Change happens instantly. What can take a lifetime is getting ready to change.
