I recently discovered the difference between being happy and being joyful. How did I do that after living 58 years on this planet? The simple answer is I never new anyone who was joyful before now.
When teaching people to love others you must first love yourself because you cannot give what you do not have. And cannot do what you do not know. I am not talking about knowing about something, You can know about anything by reading books or doing online searches or finding a video on YouTube to explain about pretty much anything.
But you cannot possibly live something until you know it–until you feel it, live it and breathe it. Consequently, since I never really knew there was such a thing as living in joy, I was unable to even know about joyous living—before now.
I made a new friend one year ago. At first I thought she was very different—until I realized I envied how free she felt all the time. No matter where we went, I noticed my friend was completely free to be herself.
I am not saying she was ever inappropriate, loud, obnoxious or rude. I am saying she shares what she feels and thinks—and always does so in a respectful way. Even through all her proper decorum she stands out from everybody else in the room for who she is— pure joy.
